Workshop on Tuber Genome Annotation
From Wednesday 21 May 2008
To Friday 23 May 2008

Purpose of the workshop

The workshop aimed at establishing the current status of the Tuber genome project (i.e., sequencing/assembly, machine annotation, EST/transcriptome, whole-genome arrays), to bring together annotators for discussing the data sets generated by the ab initio machine annotation and whole genome analyses, and to train data users to manual curation and comparative genomics tools.

The goal of the workshop was to train members of the Tuber Genome Consortium and EVOLTREE networks on how to use the basic functions of the Genoscope and INRA Genome Portal for genome analysis and manual curation of predicted genes and functions. Attendees learned how to navigate through the genome, analyze gene families and pathways, search for genes of interest, evaluate gene structures using available evidence and if necessary change them, and assign gene names and functions. They also used bioinformatics pipelines for SNP detection.
