Purpose of the workshop

The main aims of this workshop was

• to establish the current status of the Glomus genome project (i.e., sequencing/assembly, machine annotation, EST/transcriptome, whole-genome arrays),
• to bring together annotators for discussing the data sets generated by the ab initio machine annotation and whole genome analyses, and
• to train data users to manual uration and comparative genomics tools.

The goal of this workshop was to train members of the Glomus Genome Consortium and EVOLTREE network on how to use the basic functions of the JGI and INRA Genomeportals for genome analysis and manual curation of predicted genes and functions. Attendees learned how to navigate through the genome, analyze gene families andpathways, search for genes of interest, evaluate gene structures using available evidenceand if necessary change them, and assign gene names and functions. They also used bioinformatics pipelines for SNP detection.
