Long Term Perspective
The land will maintain in the ownership of the state, no changes in the status of conservation areas in future. The site is located 30 km from the Savonlinna airport. Punkaharju Research Unit of Metla is next to the forest which offers possibilities to transport samples and host scientists. Punkaharju research unit is specialized in forest genetics with researchers on forest genetics (molecular and quantitative genetics) and forest ecology (herbivory) and trained technical staff for field work.
Scientific Value
Historical records on plantations and the origins of materials are available, which show environmental variability. The site is rich of nutrients dominate, but poorer sites can also be found. In the site also peat land exists. Ecological manipulation and establishment of field trials is possible.
