TreeType: collecting tree phenotypes in the field

Help the TreeType project take off by collecting data on the project spearhead species!
TreeType aims at collecting phenotypic data in natural populations of forest trees and is open to everybody, from citizens to forest researchers and managers.

TreeType aims at collecting phenotypic data in natural populations of forest trees and is open to everybody, from citizens to forest researchers and managers.

Although the project is open to all European forest trees, we have started to collect data on Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L) and pedunculate and sessile oaks (Quercus robur and Quercus petraea), with the objective of using them as the project spearhead.

The project has no funding and relies on the generous contribution of participants, but it has established as mid-term goal (one or two years) the production of both a scientific publication and a database release co-authored by all contributors.

Take some minutes to have a look at the
protocols for the Scots pine on the TreeType website.

The ‘standard’ protocol is oriented towards citizens without particular forestry or biology training while the ‘advanced’ protocol assumes some more specific training. The protocols for the oaks will be available shortly.

We would be very happy if you would like to contribute to the TreeType initiative! Every tree is important and thus we will be pleased to accept any contributions, including data from single trees, but please consider phenotyping a minimum of 20 trees of any of the above mentioned species.

For any additional questions, please contact Stephen Cavers (CEH, scav @ ceh.ac.uk) or Santiago C. González-Martínez (INRA, santiago.gonzalez-martinez @ pierroton.inra.fr).
