The SwissForestLab

The SwissForestLab is a research platform and infrastructural network which makes intensive use of synergies from  expertise in forest research in Switzerland.

The network, with the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) as lead partner, promotes cooperative research among associated institutions in order to obtain an in-depth understanding of ecosystem functioning, resistance, and resilience of forests.

The SwissForestLab officially started in September 2017 with four seed money projects, including one looking at adaptation and acclimation of forest trees to extreme climatic events, and one using paleogenomics to elucidate past adaptive and neutral processes in a changing climate. In December 2019, the network defined its constitutions and elected its first steering committee. In addition to supporting scientific synergies, the SwissForestLab organizes scientific symposia, summer schools, and regular dialogues with stakeholders.
