Ancient DNA is a fast-developing field. In this workshop we reviewed recent projects and progress with animal and plant DNA from genetic and palaeoecological viewpoints. A practical focus compared sampling techniques, discussed preservation issues and examined laboratory protocols. The development of new tools for sampling aDNA and plans for future collaborative research was also covered.

The workshop took place in the best mountain landscapes of England, in Lake District (UK). The maximum number of participants was 25.
