Title of the project: "Unraveling intra-specific variation in Pinus nigra seed dormancy and its link with seedling fitness"

The main aim of this project is to implement near infrared (NIR) spectrometry to estimate population differences in Pinus nigra seed dormancy, their influence on the species germination niche, as well as to evaluate to which extent seedling early fitness is mediated by dormancy release. Overall, this project will allow a better understanding about how reduced cold stratification periods may affect regeneration in tree species with shallow physiological dormancy.
