‘Phylogenomic approaches to analysis of evolution and functional novelty in microbial communities’

Dr Huerta-Cepas, is a Group Leader at CSIC working on computational methods and genomic resources to characterize microbial communities (microbiomes) from a functional and phylogenetic perspective. His lab is particularly interested in the characterization of novel functional modules associated with specific environmental conditions, for which they combine evolutionary analysis, ecology, massive sequencing data and high performance computational resources. The lab is currently focussed on projects in comparative metagenomics, phylogenetic diversity within microbial communities, evolution at the gene family level, and phylogenomic methods and tools.
